Summer Undergraduate Internship Position at Sandia National Labs

We are seeking a qualified and motivated undergraduate student to continue development of an immersive virtual environment for designing and simulating physical defense scenarios. The current environment is implemented using the Unity 3D game engine and includes basic tools for environment customization, physical sensor models, and AI path planning. Our goals are to increase the physical fidelity of the sensor models, implement intelligent adversaries, and improve the user interface. This work will involve communicating with engineering groups and working well in a small team. There is also room for exploratory work, depending on the student's interest. The student will gain real-world experience developing software and be able to contribute to the incorporation of virtual environments for national security applications. Location: Livermore, CA Required Skills:
  • Experience with C# or other object-oriented languages
  • Ability to communicate well and implement engineering specifications
  • Desire to learn and explore new problems
Desired Skills:

There is a position available with the Center for Science Education. I am taking it on myself to try to vet some of the possible applicants. Technical skills needed (these are the absolute Musts): -Knowledge of PHP not only as a scripting language but part of how it functions as Object Oriented as well -Knowledge of mySQL at a basic level. They need to know how to do pairs joins etc... but nothing too too fancy. They are perfectly welcome to and encouraged to use tools like mySQL workbench and toad. -Knowledge of HTML4 or better -Knowledge of CSS3 Technical skills (these are wants): -Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat Professional and how fdf form filling works -jQuery Additional Skills (these are wants): Design or media arts experience Leadership ability Quick to learn new programming languages Demographic -No freshmen (unless you feel they can handle their course load and perform well I trust your judgement 100%) -Preferred Sophomore or Junior majoring in computer science. -Grad students who did their undergrad in computer science or are studying it now.
