MS Student Interested in Data Analysis

We are looking for 1 talented MS. student to start in fall 2019 (or as soon as possible). This project is funded by NSF. If you are interested in flood modeling and enjoy developing algorithms for flood data analysis using Python, R, etc., I encourage you to submit your materials to samadi@cec.sc.edu and vidal@sc.edu . This is a Civil Engineering-Computer Science and Engineering research effort. The student would be expected to conduct technical research on issues related to flood simulation. He/she will work on data preprocessing and analysis, as well as algorithmic development while would be trained on a variety of programing tools. Applications Open for 2019 CRA Graduate Cohort Workshops

We will again host two Graduate Cohort Workshops in 2019. The CRA URMD Grad Cohort Workshop is designed specifically for underrepresented minorities in computing and persons with disabilities in graduate school in computing fields. The CRA-W Grad Cohort Workshop is designed for women students in their first, second, or third year of graduate school in computing fields. The workshops will include a mix of formal presentations, informal discussions and social events. By attending Grad Cohort, participants will be able to build mentoring relationships and develop peer networks that are intended to form the basis for ongoing activities during their graduate career and beyond. Both applications are open now and will close on November 15.

These workshops are generously funded by sponsors from industry, academia, the National Science Foundation, CRA, and the computing community.

Undergraduate Research Opportunity Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering

Water resources research group at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is seeking to hire an undergraduate student in the field of Big Data Analytics. This program is supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF). It is anticipated that one (1) student will be selected to work on research project related to Hurricane Florence data in South Carolina (SC). We are going to be performing machine learning analysis of flooding in SC. This is a Civil Engineering- Computer Science and Engineering research effort. Eligibility Requirements: All full-time undergraduate students majoring in Civil Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering at the University of South Carolina are eligible to apply. Students who have previous experience working with python, Java, and R, are strongly encouraged to apply. Deadlines: The application deadline is November 23, 2018 at 5:00 pm. Notification of finalists will be announced no later than November 30. Finalists will be contacted for interviews during December 3th through December 7th. It is anticipated that the selection of NSF Fellowship recipient will be announced in December second week and started his/her job immediately. Stipend: Recipient will receive a $13 per hour for the 48-week period starting December 10, 2018 and ending Oct. 18, 2019. Student must be available for the entire duration of the program and are expected to work a standard 10-hour week for each one of the 48 weeks.
