Reporting to the Director of Library Technology Services, the Developer II functions as the Lead Programmer/Developer for existing products and systems as well as new products based on organizational needs and specifications for University Libraries. The Lead Programmer will apply system API capabilities to enhance productivity and end-user experience. Other duties include investigating, recommending and implementing coding solutions that improve commercial and open source products in use, assuring consistent application of accepted standards and best practices for creation, enhancement and maintenance of software solutions and collaborating with all members of the Library Technology Services and with all units throughout the Libraries to assess and recommend software development needs. Communicates as necessary with various organizational stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications Software development experience in an organizational environment. A strong experiential portfolio using scripting languages such as PHP, Ruby, JavaScript as well as programming languages such as Java. Knowledge and experience using CSS, HTML, XML. Knowledge of Flash, Quicktime. Experience working on Linux platforms, particularly Ubuntu. Experience applying best practices and principles to software maintenance and development. Outstanding interpersonal communication skills. Ability to establish effective working relationships with all stakeholders. Ability to effectively work in a team environment. Summer Outreach Opportunity

We need your help! Please volunteer and encourage your students to support the Partners for Minorities in Engineering and Computer Science (PMECS) summer camps. Every summer several CEC students and faculty help out with the PMECS programs. In addition to the positive experiences, these activities also help with writing a successful broader impact for your next proposal. The PMECS program is a well-established annual summer program, offered since 1978. Participating in PMECS will show your contribution to improving diversity in engineering and computer science. We are looking for faculty, graduate students and/or undergraduate students to lead and facilitate hands-on educational sessions for these students. This summer around 180 underrepresented minority (URM) high school students will participate in PMECS programs. There are two sessions: residential (around 120 students) and commuter (around 60 students). PMECS students are divided into four groups: rising freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. The PMECS students are supervised at all times, so you would only need to provide the educational content for your session. Each session can last any amount of time between 1.5 hours or ½ day. Hands-on activities are highly encouraged. These summer camps provide valuable experiences for both the high school students and the CEC volunteers. Most PMECS students return each summer during their high school studies. Their interactions with CEC faculty and students may entice them to apply to USC. Moreover, they will be our best recruiters by promoting USC to their peers at high school. Software Engineer (SE) will be responsible for conducting and coordinating the code development activities on BofA Mobile Applications. Become a Mentor to the New USC CEC Students

Dear CEC Students, As you may know, the College has been investing to enhance and expand academic support systems. We have staffed up the Student Services and Student Success offices, and have added advisors. But a proven element contributing to student success is peer mentoring. There is no substitute for creating a connection between incoming students and those of you who are already “veterans” of CEC. The connection to a peer, who has just experienced what an incoming student is about to experience, is much more effective than the connection to somebody like me who is now over 35 years removed from his/her undergraduate days. I am excited to announce that the College of Engineering and Computing is launching a Peer Mentorship Program. We have staff and infrastructure to establish and support connections between incoming students and peer mentors. But we need your help! We need you to volunteer to be mentors, so that each cohort of new students can be more successful than the previous one. I know that you are all busy. But I hope you will be able to devote a few hours to this activity each semester. Your participation could mean the difference between staying in or dropping out for a future student. As a Peer Mentor, you will build your leadership skills while sharing your successes, failures, passions and experiences with first-year students who need to hear them.
