The University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) Summer Undergraduate Research
Fellowship in Information Technology (SURF-IT) offers opportunities for UCSC
and non-UCSC students.
SURF-IT includes a research experience supervised by UCSC faculty in computer
engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, or bioinformatics.
SURF-IT Students will also have weekly meetings focused on graduate school
preparation, how to present research results, research ethics, as well as field
trips to neighboring Silicon Valley research laboratories, and of
course, a number
of social activities such as trips to IBM Almaden Research Center, Monterey Bay
Aquarium Research Institute and the San Jose Computer History Museum!

The SURF-IT fellowship includes:
• A summer of exciting research
• $4500 Stipend
• Housing and meals on one of the nation’s most beautiful campuses
• Travel reimbursement to and from the program
SURF-IT especially encourages applications from students who are also
members of a group
underrepresented in engineering (e.g. low income, first generation
higher education, Women, Native
American, African American, Latino, or Pacific Islander).
Applicants must be U.S. citizens or Permanent Residents.
