Event: Open Source 101 – An introduction

Taking place in the IT-oLogy auditorium, this workshop will familiarize participants with what it means for software, hardware, and content to be open. Participants will explore how the idea of openness has led to advancements in the development of software and hardware, and made content creation easier and more accessible. A 45minute presentation will be followed by 15 minutes of Q&A and a 30 minute tour of the OpenIT Lab.
What attendees will learn:
The definition of openness, and how software, hardware, and content can be open; how to use open operating systems and open software; how to contribute to open software and content projects. Attendees will also learn about the advantages of using Open Source solutions and why knowledge of these systems is so important to current and future IT professionals.
