VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

 

Position — Curator of Engineering and Technology Location — Roper Mountain Science Center Posting Date — September 14, 2011 *Application Deadline — Until Filled

Beginning of Salary Range — $48,994 Length of Service — 12 months*  Major Responsibilities: (1)  Develop and design new lessons, exhibits and instructional opportunities for students and the public by bringing together STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) partners from education and industry; (2)  Teach exemplary inquiry-based lessons daily in STEM topics for the students of Greenville County and other locations visiting the center; (3)   Develop and present teacher in-service workshops and methods/content courses in STEM areas;  (4)  Teach and coordinate programs and supervise staff and volunteers in STEM programs for the public including: Electronic Field Trips, FIRST LEGO League, Advanced Robotics, Summer Camps, 2nd Saturdays, Group Programs, Special Programs, etc.; (5)   Assist in teaching and technical maintenance in the planetarium and observatory;  (6)   Serve as a content specialist and resource agent for STEM resources to teachers, students, and public; (7)   Assist in fundraising for the new STEM program through grants, donations, and acquisitions; (8)   Daily schedule:  8:30am -5:00pm.  *Also includes eight Saturdays per year and after-hours events as needed; and (9)   Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.   Qualifications: (1) Bachelor of Science Degree in the field of science, engineering, or education, with Master’s Degree, preferred; (2) minimum of 5 years experience in field of science education with students in a formal (school) or informal (museum) setting;  (3) proven ability in designing curriculum and/or programs for students; (4) dynamic, out-going personality and proven ability to develop and cultivate community and industry partnerships; (5) ability to relate well to elementary, middle, and high school students;  (6) strong organizational and interpersonal skills; (7) *demonstrable computer skills in word, excel, outlook and comfortable using other software.  * A computer test will be given to interview candidates.
