Shauna Rhett Abstract What is a better way to develop computer software? Evaluation of Java IDE An integrated development environment (IDE), also known as integrated design environment and integrated debugging environment, is a type of computer software that assists computer programmers to develop software. I will evaluate three commonly used IDEs with an objective of identifying the best IDE to use in an introductory Java programming class. The Integrated Development Environments to be evaluated are: Eclipse, JCreator, and NetBeans. These IDEs will be evaluated and compared with respect to the ease of downloading and installing, memory usage, ease of use, and features and capabilities. Eclipse is an open source community whose projects are focused on providing a vendor-neutral open development platform and application frameworks for building software. JCreator provides the user with a range of functionality such as: project management, code-completion, debugger interface, wizards and a fully customizable user interface. NetBeans includes comprehensive support for developing IDE plug-in modules and rich client applications based on the NetBeans platform.
