Bio

Laura Zavala has a B.S. degree in Computer Science and a M.S. degree in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Veracruz, Mexico. She is a Computer Science PhD candidate at the University of South Carolina, where she has conducted research on the application of AI techniques into the practice of software engineering, ontology integration, and matchmaking of Web services.

Publications

On these areas, she has published papers at workshops and conferences such as AAAI, AAMAS, IJCAI, and ICWS, as well as book chapters in software robustness related books.

Work Experience

Laura Zavala has an extensive work experience as software engineer, systems analyst, application developer, object oriented developer, database designer, database developer, and Web applications developer.

While working in the Artificial Intelligence department at the University of Veracruz, she developed commercial, high-revenue-generating education-related software. She also created training plans and support training materials, and imparted training workshops to different educational institutions (users of the software) along the country.

Research Experience

She has research experience on AI, multiagent systems, service oriented computing, semantic Web, and software engineering. She has served on program committees for international conferences and workshops on agents and software engineering.

Laura Zavala is a member of Upsilon Pi Epsilon (International Honor Society for the Computing and Information Disciplines), Eta Kappa Nu (Electrical and Computer Engineering Honor Society), IEEE Service Oriented Computing Society, IEEE Computer Society, American Society for Quality, Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, and IEEE Women in Engineering Society.
