Note:You must have a passing grade on lab to pass the class.

HW/Quizzes: Quizzes will be given during the semester and serve as a method of attendance. Lowest quiz grade will be dropped.

Tests: If you miss a test during the semester due to a legitimate excuse, there will be a makeup cumulative test at the end of the semester. It will be your responsibility to contact me about making up the missed test soon after your absence. Only one missed test can be made up.

Attendance Policy: Attendance of the lab and lecture portions of this course is required. Excessive absences will result in a reduction of the final grade for the course. Any student missing more than three lectures, quizzes or labs may have his/her final grade reduced by one letter grade.

Lab Assignments: Lab assignments are due at 10pm the night before lab. Your files must be on your H: drive by that time. You also need to submit a printed copy of your lab at the beginning of the lab. Finally, all lab assignments will be checked and graded from your H: drive in lab. The corrections will be put on your printed copy. NOTE: No lab grades will be dropped. It is important that you complete every lab assigned.

Late Assignment Policy:

  • 1 week extension for extenuating circumstances without any penalty.
  • 1 week late with 10% penalty.
  • 2 weeks late with 25% penalty.
  • No labs accepted beyond 2 weeks of deadline.
  • Extensions may not be possible towards the end of the semester.

Academic Honesty: The University of South Carolina and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering take a strong stand against cheating. Anyone caught cheating will receive a grade of F and the incident will be reported to the Dean of your particular college, which may result in further disciplinary action. You are allowed to ask for help in the labs and on certain parts of the projects and homework. View USC's Rules of Academic Responsibility

If you are having trouble with an assignment, please do not cheat. Your instructors are available during their office hours and through e-mail to assist you with any difficulties you may be facing. Although cheating may at times seem like a quick fix to what can appear to be a desperate situation, it never is. Cheating will only cause you more problems if you are caught. If you are in doubt as to what constitutes cheating, please ask the instructor.

Here are a few specific actions that are considered cheating in CSCE 102:
  1. Sharing (giving and/or receiving) assignments with other students
  2. Looking over another student's shoulder in lab and copying their work
  3. Having another student dictate to you what to write word for word
  4. Although giving your account username/password to another students is not cheating in and of itself, it may lead to unauthorized copying of your documents, so don't do it
  5. Since this class is a programming class intended to teach HTML/XHTML and JavaScript programming, use of an HTML editor that generates HTML automatically (e.g. MS Word, Frontpage, DreamWeaver, etc.) is considered cheating and will be treated accordingly
