Outline for this semester

Since I am new to USC, I plan to present this course much as it has been presented in the past by Dr. Sengupta. Do not expect radical changes for this semester, but watch this space for updated information.

The course is planned to cover the following topics:

Tests and assignments

There will be two tests during the semester. The first exam will be on 20 February. The final exam is scheduled for Tuesday, 8 May 2001, at 9:00am. The tests and the final exam will be open book. In addition to the tests and exam, there will be several homework assignments during the semester.

Grading scheme

The final grade will be computed on the basis of the weighted average of the scores in the two tests, the assignments, and the final exam. The weights will be 30% for the tests combined, 40% for the final, and 30% for the assignments combined. The final grades will be curved, but you should expect no lower a grade than you would receive under the usual 90/80/70/60/50 scheme.

Deadlines

Assignments will have due dates and will be turned in at the beginning of the class period on the due date. Assignments turned in up to 24 hours late will receive 80% of the grade that would have been applicable for an on time submission. Assignments will not be accepted if turned in more than 24 hours late.

Academic Honesty

Assignments and examination work are expected to be the sole effort of the student submitting the work. Students are expected to follow the Code of Student Academic Responsibility. Every instance of a suspected violation will be reported. Students found guilty of violations of the Code will receive the grade of F for the course.
