Textbook outline
Part of this course is a requirement for you to do oral and written
presentations.
I will therefore "teach" only some of this course, and I will have you,
in groups, present some of the rest of the course.
I will cover chapters 2, 4, and 9.
You will provide lectures on chapters 3, 5, 6, 7, and 8.
Chapter 1
is a general purpose chapter about computing.
Most of this should not be entirely new to you, but this is information worth
knowing and a chapter worth reading.
Chapter 2
is one of the best introductions I have ever seen to the concepts of
ethics, especially as they apply in this course.
This is a very important chapter.
Chapter 3
(networking)
Scheduled for 20 February
Chapter 4
on intellectual property will be covered in some depth.
This is a very important topic with regard to computing in large part
because the issues concern new technology and thus the law isn't always
completely up to date as to what should and should not be permitted.
Chapter 5
(privacy)
Scheduled for 13 February
Chapter 6
(computer and network security)
Scheduled for 1 March
Chapter 7
(computer reliability)
Scheduled for 27 February
Chapter 8
(work and wealth)
Scheduled for 6 March
Chapter 9
on professional ethics and codes of professional conduct will be
covered in some detail.
In addition to what is in this chapter, we will also look at other codes
of conduct.
