From Dr. Valtorta:
Today's lead story in the Business section of the State is about GM's plan to hire "up to" 10,000 software developers and other IT professionals in the next 3-5 years ("GM to bring computer technology in-house"). This is an Associated Press article by Tom Krisher, bylined Detroit. It is very well written. For comparison, the expected number of jobs in mechanical engineering nationwide for the same period is about the same (cf. BLS Report).

Below is a great opportunity to help local kids, and add something awesome to your resume. -- jmvidal
I am a teacher at Catawba Trail Elementary School in Richland 2 schools and we have just started a Lego Robotics team. We plan to compete in a FLL tournament. We have been unable to find a engineer in the community to assist our team. I was wondering if you had any students who would be willing to mentor our team. We meet on Tuesdays ( some Mondays) from 3:00-4:30. Any assistance would be wonderful.

ProductionBeast is a Santa Monica startup focused on making the production industry more efficient. The company was founded by Eric Hebel, an entrepreneur and producer, who sold his last company Channel M in 2009. ProductionBeast is a social networking platform that connects people working in television, film and commercial production based on their past projects and connections, and thus provides a powerful tool for finding potential jobs. Just as important, we make it easy for producers to find the best freelancers and vendors based on recommendations from people they know and trust.
